About Us

Since 2012

Our Organisation working in the field of Saving Biodiversity for the past Five years, We are constantly working towards making people aware about the relation between Biodiversity and us. We have to spread the consciousness about every creature’s contribution in environment. Our Annual Journal is also a tool for spreading the knowledge of environment. Which we publish on the `World Environment Day’ each year.

We are engaged in various activities starting from Environment awareness programs to field work on saving a specific creature, which are in the red list of IUCN such as Snake (Serpents) and Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata).

Kolkata Green Planet Organisation is an Organisation with difference. We believe in making people Act towards the Ultimate – Goal of a Greener and Healthier planet. We may have small human capital but we believe that every people of our society are our capital.

It is not that we are ignorant towards environmental problems but the fact is that we have been very tolerant towards it, we were tolerated when the world’s surface temperature rose by 0.8 degree Celsius during in the past century, even we remained tolerant when our daily life got affected due to catastrophic storms and flood took a toll on our daily life: we somehow miss to observe and analyse that these catastrophes are not just natural incidents; may be excessive dependence on technologies took a toll on our observation capabilities this is where an organisation like ours operate, we understand that it is our responsibility to make people aware about all these catastrophic consequences  are not just another isolated incidents, these. Our aim is to make people act before it is too late.

From Our President’s Desk

Environment refers to the surrounding (both living and non-living) of the livings species. The human-beings, plants, animals and other living beings operate in the environment. The environment is also sometimes referred to as habitat. The environment consists of both living and non-living things. Living things such as animals, plants, etc. interact with both other living and non-living things. Similarly, non-living things such as soil, water, climate, temperature, sunlight, air, etc. interact with other non-living and living things. There is a close relationship between living organisms and the environment. Human-beings are most powerful and intelligent among all living creatures.

Man can influence the environment with his activities. The effects of man’s activities on the environment have been both positive and negative. On one hand, the scientific inventions of man have made human life comfortable. On the other hand, these inventions have caused danger for the sustainability of our environment. Thus, it is the responsibility of every human being to protect and save the environment, so that the future generation may enjoy the gifts of nature and environment. The interaction of living beings, including human-beings, brings changes in the environment. Similarly, livings beings also display changes within them with the change in the environment.

Kolkata Green Planet Organization envisages creating the ultimate goal of a healthy and blissful environment through education of the students and the community about the pollution problem and the harmful effects of pollution. The development mandate of Kolkata Green Planet Organization to enable humanity to live sustainably i.e. “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” can only be achieved through stronger partnership with the Government, local authorities, civil society and the community at large.

From Our Secretary’s Desk

We are mainly an environment conserving organization that is actively engaged in various fieldwork. Generating awareness has been our main goal, over the years we have worked in snake bite management awareness camp, Pangolin Existence survey and Bio-Diversity conservation programs.

Pangolin has occupied the Top spot of IUCN ‘Red List’ for being the most endangered species in the world, and that has caught our attention. Everyone is busy with Tiger and Lion conservation has severely overlooked this Peace-Loving Nocturnal Ant-eater animal.

People have little or no knowledge about this species and that is where Organisation like us needs to step in for creating awareness and gathering support against Pangolin Trafficking and Poaching. Countries like China and Vietnam use Pangolin Scale for Traditional Medicinal purposes. The pangolin is not only the most endangered species in the world it has also the Crown of being the most trafficked animal in its inventory.

The inauguration of our Pangolin Conservation has the goal to put an end of Pangolin Poaching and trafficking, we are in progress to rope in the forest department of West Bengal and the Local Authorities of Pangolin habitat areas. Our Project has just started and we have a long path to travel to make people completely aware of this Peace-loving Animal.

Our organization conducted a massive survey with our limited resources on Pangolin’s Existence. Some parts of Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapur Districts in West Bengal, India.

According to the survey report, we did not find any Pangolin, but our volunteers have seen so many pugmarks of Pangolin at Murgaboni, Khatra, and Simlapal of Bankura District. We have suggested primarily we are going to start Pangolin Conservation Work under Chhatna P.S. Jurisdiction through Awareness and Community Development Programme.
